What is Cupping Therapy?
Cupping therapy is an ancient decompression treatment that uses localized suction on the skin to increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and promote deep cellular healing.
The practitioner applies specialized glass or plastic cups to the patient's body. A manual pump creates a vacuum inside the cup. The resulting suction gently lifts the patient's skin and underlying fascia.
This suction serves a vital purpose of: expanding local blood vessels, improving localized circulation, stretching tight muscle fibers, and triggering a localized healing response.
Cupping is highly beneficial and can be utilized on the right candidates at MotionPro.

What a Cupping Therapy Session Looks Like
No guesswork and no equipment you have never seen before. Here is the actual sequence.
Evaluation and screening
We start with a full evaluation. We review your medical history, your current condition, and your goals, and we decide together whether cupping therapy belongs in your plan at all.
Placing the cups
Text: Your therapist identifies the target areas. A specialized oil or lotion is applied to the skin, and the therapist carefully positions the sterilized cups over the tight or painful areas.
Creating the vacuum
Text: Using a manual pump, the therapist creates a controlled vacuum inside each cup. This suction gently draws the skin and superficial muscle layers upward, increasing localized blood circulation and relaxing tight tissues.
Duration and removal
The cups are left in place for about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on your comfort and therapy goals. Afterward, the vacuum pressure is gently released, the cups are removed, and the therapist may perform light manual stretching.

Is Cupping Therapy Safe?
Who is typically a good candidate?
-
Dealing with tight, restricted muscles
-
Recovering from intense training or accelerating muscle recovery
-
Managing chronic back and/or neck pain
-
Working to restore flexibility and normal range of motion
Who needs medical clearance first?
Some conditions require a review with your physician before we begin. We screen for these during your initial evaluation. If you have an active skin infection, a bleeding disorder, or are currently taking blood thinners, cupping may not be appropriate for you. If that is the case, we will let you know right away and build your treatment plan another way.
It is a fair question, and it is one we hear often as creating a localized vacuum on your skin sounds more dramatic than it is.
When cupping is applied by a licensed professional, with the suction levels customized to your comfort and monitored throughout the session, it is a well-established and exceptionally safe rehabilitation technique. What makes it safe is the comprehensive screening beforehand and the close supervision during your visit. That is why we do not offer it as an unvetted standalone add-on.

Preparing for Your Cupping Therapy Session
To help you get the most out of your cupping therapy session, there are a few simple things you can do the day before:
-
Stay well hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day and continue hydrating the morning of your appointment.
-
Eat normally: There is no need to fast. Have your usual meals and avoid arriving overly hungry or overly full.
-
Limit alcohol: Avoid or minimize alcohol the day before and the day of your session, as it may contribute to dehydration.
-
Avoid excessive exercise: Light activity is fine, but consider avoiding an unusually intense workout the day before if the area being treated is already sore or fatigued.
-
Keep the treatment area clean: Shower normally and avoid applying heavy lotions, oils, or creams to the area before your appointment.
-
Wear comfortable clothing: Choose clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated.
-
Let your therapist know about any concerns: Inform your physical therapist about medications, recent injuries, skin irritation, bruising, or any changes in your health before treatment.
Call (561) 834-3330 and we will walk you through current rates and what your plan would look like.
Why Patients Choose MotionPro for Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is not a machine you sit at. It is a treatment that depends on the person applying it.
Cuff pressure has to be set for your limb. Your response has to be watched during the session. Load and progression have to be adjusted based on what your body is actually doing that day, not what a protocol says week four should look like.
Many practices in the area book patients in overlapping blocks and hand that work to a technician. We built this clinic the opposite way. One patient at a time, in a quiet space, with the same doctor of physical therapy from evaluation to discharge.
Our patients range from people in their thirties working back from a sports injury to people in their seventies rebuilding strength after a joint replacement. The treatment plan changes for each of them. The level of attention does not.
