Dry Needling in West Palm Beach
Release the muscle tension that keeps bringing your pain back. Dry needling reaches trigger points that stretching and massage often cannot, and we use it as one part of a full treatment plan rather than a standalone quick fix.

Is Dry Needling Right for Your Pain?
Most people who come to us for dry needling are in one of these four situations.
Pain that keeps coming back after massage or stretching
You get relief for a day or two, then it returns. That pattern usually means the tension has a source that hands-on work alone has not reached.
One stubborn knot that will not release
You can point to it. You have pressed on it, rolled on it, and had someone else work on it. It is still there. A needle reaches depths that pressure cannot.
Tightness limiting your training or range of motion
You are not injured exactly, you are restricted. The shoulder does not go overhead cleanly. The hip locks up after a run. The calf never fully loosens.
Neck and shoulder tension from desk work
Long hours at a screen, tight upper traps, and headaches that start at the base of the skull. This is one of the most common reasons patients ask us about dry needling.
Not sure which one fits you? Call us (561) 834-3330 and we will tell you straight.

What Is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a treatment that uses a thin, sterile, single-use needle to release muscle trigger points, the tight bands of tissue that generate pain and limit how you move.
Your physical therapist inserts the needle directly into the muscle that is driving the problem. The muscle responds by releasing tension, circulation improves, and the movement that was restricted starts to open up.
The word "dry" simply means nothing is injected. There is no medication and no fluid. The needle itself is the treatment.
It is called dry needling because the technique came out of research into trigger point injections, where researchers found that the needle alone produced much of the benefit.
Title | Dry Needling | Acupuncture |
|---|---|---|
How points are chosen | Based on your movement assessment and where the dysfunction is found | Based on traditional diagnostic frameworks |
Treats | Muscle pain, tightness, restricted movement, and injury recovery | A broad range of conditions, including many outside musculoskeletal health |
Performed by | Licensed physical therapists with specific dry needling training | Licensed acupuncturists |
Targets | Specific muscles and trigger points identified during a physical exam | Points along meridians mapped by traditional practice |
Based on | Modern anatomy, neuroscience, and musculoskeletal research | Traditional Chinese medicine |
Neither approach is a competitor to the other, and plenty of people benefit from both. If your goal is to restore movement and resolve muscle pain as part of a rehabilitation plan, dry needling is the one built for that job.

What a Dry Needling Session Looks Like
No guesswork, and nothing happens before we have examined you. Here is the actual sequence.
A full evaluation before any needle
We start by examining how you move, where the pain shows up, and what makes it better or worse. We review your history and your goals, and we decide together whether dry needling belongs in your plan at all.
Finding the muscle that is actually driving your pain
We locate the trigger points and tissue restrictions contributing to your symptoms. In our experience, the muscle that hurts is often not the muscle causing the problem, which is why the exam matters more than the needle does.
The needling itself
A thin, sterile, single-use needle goes into the target muscle. This part of the visit is usually brief. Your therapist stays with you throughout and adjusts based on how you respond.
Hands-on work and exercise in the same visit
Releasing a muscle is not the same as fixing the pattern that tightened it. We follow the needling with manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, movement education, and a home program so the change holds.
In our clinic, the doctor of physical therapy who evaluates you is the same one who performs the needling and stays for the rest of the session. We do not hand this off.

What Dry Needling Actually Feels Like
This is the question almost everyone asks, and most clinics answer it vaguely. Here is the honest version.
The therapist who evaluates you is the therapist who treats you every visit through discharge. Nobody is reading your case off a chart for the first time in week four.

Is Dry Needling Safe?
Who is typically a good candidate
-
Dealing with muscle pain or tightness that has not responded to stretching or massage
-
Recovering from a strain, an overuse injury, or a sports injury
-
Living with chronic trigger points or muscle guarding
-
Restricted in range of motion by tight or overactive muscle
-
Working through neck, back, or shoulder tension related to posture or desk work
-
Already in physical therapy and progressing more slowly than expected
When we screen you out or refer you first
Not every patient is a candidate. Some conditions and medications call for a conversation with your physician before we begin, and some presentations point to a problem that dry needling will not solve.
We screen for all of this during your evaluation. If dry needling is not appropriate for you, we will say so plainly and build your plan another way.
It is a fair question, and it comes up in almost every evaluation.
When dry needling is performed by a licensed physical therapist with specific training in the technique, using sterile single-use needles and a clear understanding of the anatomy underneath, it is a well-established treatment. What makes it safe is the exam beforehand and the supervision during. That is why we never treat it as a bolt-on service you can book without being evaluated.
What Dry Needling Costs and How Payment Works
We will be direct with you, because most clinics are not.
MotionPro does not accept insurance. We are a cash-pay practice, and dry needling is delivered inside a physical therapy plan rather than sold as a standalone session.
Here is what that buys you. Your appointment is one-on-one with a doctor of physical therapy for the full visit. You see the same therapist every time, so nobody is relearning your case from a chart. There is no rotating staff, no shared floor time, and no session cut short because three other patients are waiting.
In our experience, patients ask about insurance early, and many still choose to work with us once they understand what the visit actually includes and how much faster things tend to move when someone is paying attention the whole time.
Call (561) 834-3330 and we will walk you through current rates and what your plan would look like.

Why Patients Choose MotionPro for Dry Needling
Dry needling is not a machine you sit at. It is a treatment that depends entirely on the person holding the needle.
Someone has to examine you and work out which muscle is actually generating the pain. Someone has to know the anatomy under the needle. Someone has to decide what happens in the forty minutes after the needling, because that is the part that determines whether the relief lasts.
Dry needling is never a standalone treatment in our clinic. It is one tool inside a plan that includes manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, movement retraining, and work you do at home. Clinics that sell it by the session are selling you the release without the reason it happened.
We built this practice the opposite way from the high-volume model. One patient at a time, in a quiet space, with the same doctor of physical therapy from evaluation through discharge. Our patients range from people in their thirties working back from a sports injury to people in their seventies managing chronic pain. The plan changes for each of them. The level of attention does not.
We are also a participating member of the Hospital for Special Surgery Rehabilitation National Network, and we treat patients in English and Spanish.
